During the Middle Ages, many variations of the Chair of Torture appeared. However the basic Chair of Torture was a chair covered in sharp spikes. The victim was usually tied down to the chair making the spikes penetrate the skin.
One varient of the Chair of Torture was that the chair had holes cut in the bottom of the seat and hot coals were placed underneath it. This caused terrible burns to the victim.
